CAN EECCA is pleased to announce the launch of its Capacity Development Support Programme, designed to strengthen civil society organisations within the CAN EECCA network. Our mission is to enhance network members’ ability to influence climate policy and drive effective initiatives across the region.
Programme objectives:
- Building capacity: Strengthening civil society organisations’ capacity to engage in climate activism and in the development and implementation of climate policy.
- Fostering innovation: Encouraging the development and implementation of innovative projects that address pressing climate challenges and advance sustainable development.
- Promoting collaboration: Facilitating cooperation and knowledge-sharing among civil society organisations across the region, fostering cross-border collaboration and solidarity in tackling shared climate challenges.
- Amplifying voices: Strengthening civil society’s capacity for effective climate advocacy, and advancing resilience and environmental justice at the local, national, and international levels.
- Driving change: Supporting initiatives that contribute to meaningful progress on climate resilience, mitigation, adaptation, and biodiversity conservation, in line with global climate goals.
- Climate intersectionality: Encouraging projects that recognise and address the intersection of climate change with other critical social issues, including gender equality, social justice, human rights, public health, economic development, and decolonisation.
Projects (research, policy analysis, workshops, public events, and advocacy campaigns) addressing themes such as climate mitigation, renewable energy, energy efficiency, climate education, national and local climate policy, sustainable cities, just transition, adaptation, and biodiversity should also address how these themes intersect with — and are shaped by — these broader social and environmental dimensions.
Through these objectives, the Capacity Development Support Programme aims to contribute to CAN EECCA members’ collective efforts to drive positive change and build a sustainable future for our communities and our planet.
Selection criteria:
- Membership in the CAN EECCA network.
- Formal registration as a civil society organisation able to receive financial transfers from Kyrgyzstan. Where registration is not possible under national law, applicants should name a partner NGO able to receive funds on their behalf.
- Commitment to using the support to strengthen the organisation’s capacity to influence climate policy or amplify civil society’s voice.
- Readiness to implement the proposed idea by the end of 2026.
- A concrete idea aligned with the programme’s goals and mission.
- Compliance with the regional cooperation requirement.
Important: Organizations that received financial support under the program in 2025 are not eligible to apply for the 2026 call for proposals.
Regional cooperation requirement:
Applicants must demonstrate how their proposed idea will foster cooperation between civil society across the EECCA region. Cooperation may take various forms, such as meetings held on the margins of UN negotiations, joint events, consultations, or cross-posting on social media.
Support details:
- Five organisations will be selected to receive capacity development support of up to EUR 4,000 each.
- Grant decisions will be made by the CAN EECCA Board.
Application deadline and process:
Applicants must complete the application form in full, including a simple project budget template, and submit it no later than 31 July 2026.
Selection results will be communicated to all applicants no later than 15 August 2026.
Programme funding:
The Capacity Development Support Programme is implemented under the project “Empowering Civil Society and Media for Climate Protection,” funded by the international agency Bread for the World.
