CAN EECCA (Climate Action Network Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia) presents its position paper on nuclear energy in the context of the climate crisis and the ongoing energy transition in the region.
This publication reflects the collective analysis of civil society organisations from across Eastern Europe, the Caucasus and Central Asia. It consolidates key arguments on the risks, limitations, and broader implications of nuclear power development, drawing on regional experience and evidence.
The position paper is not only a critical assessment of nuclear energy as a proposed climate solution, but also an effort to inform public debate and policy-making with independent, evidence-based perspectives. It highlights why nuclear energy in the EECCA region raises serious concerns in terms of safety, economic feasibility, and long-term sustainability.
